One of the hardest things about pregnancy and postpartum with chronic illness was all of the uncertainty about how my body would respond to the whole process. Here are a few things that I did that helped me (and Darrell) feel as prepared as we possibly could be. While the first two items might be illness specific, I think the rest are just good practice for this life transition!
As a parent, it’s easy for me to make up stories in my head about the way that Olive and Hadley are, as creatures, based on all of the things I’ve experienced with them in the past. Two stories I tell myself that immediately come to mind are 1) Hadley is an outgoing climber bean eager to jump into any new environment and 2) Olive is great at tolerating high stress situations. I'm practicing seeing them with a beginner's mind.
